My review

I never thought an author can get better with her next book, but Libby Klein did. This book is cutely enchanting

This book too has Poppy in the forefront, but this time it is Aunt Ginny who is accused of murder, that too hitting a youngish man on the head with a baseball bat in his home at night. An 80-ish year old thin woman doing that is a thought scary!!

Poppy is a strong main character in this book who has 2 men fighting for her love (and her body) and her baked goods. Her aunt’s home, now hers too, is being converted into a B&B, so there is construction supervisor Smitty who practically stays there. She is joined by her former mother-in-law Georgina who has invested in the B&B and who has an opinion about every single tiny detail.

Poppy has to manage all of above along with proving Aunt Ginny’s innocence. The story has Poppy playing her role beautifully, her intelligence shines through in this. Her pastries, cakes, and cookies made me crave for them; she makes gluten-free ones (the author has made them sound deliciously mouth-watering)

This book has many humorous situations and dialogs. The best part is Aunt Ginny trying to break the ankle monitor or trying to break free of the house arrest. The excuses used on the unsuspecting chaperones are fabulous. I wish to be as adventurous when I am 80-ish as Aunt Ginny minus the murder and arrest.

Poppy and her eccentric team along with her cat Figaro, make this series a rocking cozy mystery!!

I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Kensington, and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

My rating : 5 stars

About the Author

Libby Klein graduated Lower Cape May Regional High School in the ’80s. Her classes revolved mostly around the culinary sciences and theater, with the occasional nap in Chemistry. She has worked as a stay at home mom, climbing the ranks to the coveted position of Grandma. She also dabbles in the position of Vice President of a technology company, which mostly involves bossing other people around, making spreadsheets, and taking out the trash. She writes culinary cozy mysteries from her Northern Virginia office while trying to keep her cat Figaro off her keyboard. Most of her hobbies revolve around eating, and travel, and eating while traveling.

Book blurb

Between trying to get her gluten-free baking business off the ground and helping her aunt remodel her old Victorian into the Butterfly House Bed and Breakfast in Cape May, New Jersey, Poppy is ready to call, “Mayday!” And now Aunt Ginny—who’s a handful wide-awake—is sleepwalking on her new sleeping pill prescription and helping herself to neighbors’ snacks and knickknacks.

Even more alarming, a local humanitarian who worked with troubled teens is found murdered, and the police suspect the “Snack Bandit.” Other than a bad case of midnight munchies and some mild knickknack kleptomania, Aunt Ginny is harmless. Someone’s trying to frame her. Poppy will need to work tirelessly to uncover the killer and put the case to rest—before Aunt Ginny has to trade in her B & B for a bunk bed behind bars . . .

    1. Hahaha thank you so much Amanda… I have read this author’s books over the weekend and I loved them both, this a little bit more

        1. I agree. I love your way of thinking.. I don’t think I am gonna finish by TBR ever… Even the books on my kindle. The moment I delete one, I add two. I have book budget every month, I have blown it to October.. 😉😉😂😂❤️💜

  1. Sounds like it was a fun read to get lost in. I have to say that this has been my best reading week so far this year – I already finished two books and it’s only day 2 and I’m 20% into my third book. What are you reading next?

      1. I just finished one that I’m on the fence about. I’m kinda interested in continuing, but also not really… I’m stuck. And now I’m gonna read a YA Contemporary, since I’m trying to read more of this genre…

  2. It was a fun book, huh! I see we agreed–my review out on 8/12. Enjoying that protagonists no longer have to be 30-something, smart, and gorgeous. Also, that an 80-something can still function quite well. Looking forward to #3 in the series!

Awesome to see you here. Let's chat.
