My review

DI Robyn Carter is back with her team with a new murder and a new twist in her personal investigation about her dead husband.

The book travels the twists and turns as author Carol Wyer’s generally does. The forensics are tight and extensive. The plot is well thought of and unexpected.

Robyn Carter as the main lead goes through it with a vengeance as this time there is attack from the press too. Her personal relationships are also shown which made her a complete character.

My review is a bit lacklustre because this time Robyn did not investigate someone who was right in front of her eyes. She allowed emotions to sway her when there was a serial killer on the loose.

And this part is all me – I couldn’t see this killer doing the killing in such an elaborate manner, well planned, with the corpses killed as per some old photographs from the Bible.

The killer didn’t appear that intelligent or well read. There is only obsession. But I suppose this is fiction, so anything is possible. I also found the story different from the blurb in some ways.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Bookouture, and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

My rating : 3 stars

Book blurb

Tied to a post, arms spread wide; Detective Robyn Carter is reminded of the crucifixion, and she knows she’s looking for a killer with a twisted sense of right and wrong.

The victim’s girlfriend is devastated, unable to fathom how she will tell her sick little boy. Still reeling from her own loss, Robyn vows she will find the killer – no matter what.

But then a local doctor – a popular woman with a young family of her own – is found dead outside her surgery.

Can Robyn untangle the hidden web of secrets, lies, and smouldering grudges, at the heart of this close-knit community, before another life is lost?

  1. Booo… I’m sad that the killer seemed a little unbelievable. I like the method of the kills. Positioning the corpses like pictures from the Bible? Definitely interesting!! 👍🍻

  2. Twisty premise – but sorry you were disappointed – I know how that feels when you are all ramped up for a good thriller and it doesn’t deliver.

    1. Hahaha was I too much? Shouldn’t a killer be well read sophisticated well organized, unemotional, cool headed, intelligent, sociopath, cold eyes which shows no soul or dark soul, that aura of darkness which sucks light?

        1. Yp, you DEVILESS can be serial or killer… Actually you are a killer. You break apps and kill them vis a vis Instagram Facebook… Oh wait both are owned by the same guy.
