Happy Publication Day!!
Won’t You Save Me was one wicked tale with so many subplots that I was quite unsure how the author would link them up. Man, she did it quite seamlessly.
I have to talk about the first scene in the book. WHAM!! It hit me so hard that I had to dance with glee at the horrific mind this author had, who could think up such a scene. As a doc, such a thing had always scared me during my years of study and work. Shudder… Shudder… THE. BEST. FIRST. SCENE. EVER.
Dean Matheson was back in his home town Maple Valley on the first day of his job as Detective. Eva too joined him as his partner. Their day started with a bang, a girl dumped in front of the church, beaten and nearly dead. A child missing, a dead body found mutilated on Eva’s couch, along with the hunt for an old serial killer Beth Miller. Whew!! I could just imagine the stacks of files in their desk. Add to that, 2 kittens Scully and Mulder thrust upon them. The detectives had no free time to play.
My second book by author Wendy Dranfield, I was in awe of the nifty writing which caused the subtle shifts in the story. I loved how the author could think of so many plot lines. She was quite clever in the way she bridged everything and tied it all up in a pretty bow.
While reading the book, there was a bubble of curiosity to get to the twisted ending, the author always had one. And she didn’t disappoint. There was a major reveal which would impact Dean’s life still further… Maple Valley and the police team were never going to be the same.
An entertaining read where the characters were aplenty, and to guess some of the plot lines, I had to concentrate well. But I have to admit, I had an epic fail in my guesswork. Ah, there is always book 4.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley and publisher, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.
All my reviews can be read here
Detective Dean Matheson has returned to his hometown to begin his new job and put the traumatic events of his past behind him – but his fresh start won’t last long when the local area is hit by a series of strange disappearances and twisted killings …
A nameless girl badly beaten and dumped in front of the mysterious new church. A shocking murder scene discovered in the apartment over the diner. A child missing without a trace.
These are the crimes Dean Matheson is confronted with in his first week as detective. Are they isolated events, or is something altogether more disturbing happening in Maple Valley now that Dean’s back in town?
